In Baltimore with the Sunday Monitor. The next attempt
took place less than a month later when Christopher
Jackson and John Smith brought out the Weekly Museum
on January 8, 1797.

Edwards addressed a letter to the patrons and
supporters of the Maryland Journal in the issue of
December 27s

Having resigned my printing business, and the
publication of the Maryland Journal, it becomes
necessary for me to inform the public, that from
the first day of January next, it will be conduct-
ed by D. Finchote Preobairn, who I am persuaded
is fulley [Sic] adequate to the task and in
whom the greatest confidence may be placed as an
editor.

He stated, further, that the Monitor would be conducted
by Freebairn, "provided a sufficient number of sub-
scribers are speedily obtained," but there is no evi-
dence that Freebairn continued the Sunday newspaper.

Edwards' farewell message appeared in the Maryland
Journal on the last Saturday of the Tear.

This is the last day of the year and the last of
my appearing as the editor of the Maryland Jour-
nal, &c. I should have ueen happy to have con-
tinued this way, in the service of my fellow-
