Fire! The supporters of this paper residing in
Pittsburgh, Cumberland, Old Town, Shepherd's-
town, Emmitsburgh, Tawney Town, Creager's-Town,
Hew Market, George-Town, Montgomery, Leesburgh,
Merryland-Tract, Trap, Middletown, Liberty-Town,
and mouth of Monocacy, &c. are respectfully re-
quested to send forward the sums now due to the
printer. - To enable him to go on with his busi-
ness - maintain his family, and pay his debts,
are reasons sufficient for him to request - no
delay may take place.31

Winter recovered from this blow sufficiently to continue
his newspaper until late in 1800, and possibly until
May of 1801. The issue for November 25, 1800 is the
latest which has been located.

On May 30, 1801, to pay the rent of twenty-eight
pounds thirteen shillings due his landlord, James
Smith of Frederick, Winter delivered to Smith his press,
types and entire printing apparatus.32 This seems to
be the last record of Winter's Frederick printing
office.

Winter left Frederick after this unfortunate cir-

cumstance, but returned in August, 1806.33 He died in
Alexandria, Virginia, on April 2, 1821.34

John B. Gary* Publisher of the Key. - When Mrs.
Phebe Herbert and John D. Gary dissolved their partner-
ship in publishing the Washington Spy of Hagerstown,
