rules, &c. new and second-hand. About 100 reams
super-royal printing paper.84

The partnership was dissolved on December 31,
1804, and was succeeded by Vincent and Isaac Bonsai,
who proposed to engage in the bookbinding, bookselling
and stationery business.85 Vincent Bonsai died at
Natchez, Mississippi on July 29, 1811. His obituary
declared simply that "he was an honest man."86 Some
doubt nay be cast on this statement bv a letter
written by Niles on January 12, 1815 to William Darl-
ington in which Niles mentions a debt of twenty-five
thousand dollars left by the firm of Ponsal and Niles,
which Niles afterwards paid, In this letter, Miles
wrote, "Bonsal, peace to his souul - was a bad man and
I knew it too late,"87

Hezekiah Niles was the second son of Hezekiah
Niles and his wife, the former Mary Way, and was born
on October 10, 1777 at Jeffries Ford, East Bradford
Township, Chester County, Pennsylvania. At the age
