CHAP. CJLXVI.
An Act for the relief of William H. Burwell, of Washing-ton County.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That William H. Burwell, a free man of colour, a native of the
District of Columbia, who married a free woman of colour in
Hager'sTown, by whom he has three children, be and he is
hereby authorised and permitted to remain in the state of Ma-
ryland, any law to the contrary notwithstanding, and that any
penalties he may have incurred by coming into this state to re-
side, be and they are hereby declared to be released,

CHAP. CLXVII.
A Supplement to an Act, entitled, An Act to amend and reduce into one
the several Acts of Assembly relating- to the Public Roads in Worcester
County, passed at November Session, eighteen hundred and twenty-one

1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That from and after the passage of this act, all white male citi-
2ens residing in Worcester county, who are not assessed, or pay
a tax, shall be liable to be summoned to labour upon the pub-
lic roads of said county, in the same manner that taxable inha-
bitants are required to perform such labour by the act to which
this is a supplement, except that they shall not be required to

perform more than three days labour on said roads in any one
year; Provided, that no female of any age, nor any male under
twenty-one years of age, or over fifty years of age, shall be
subject to such duty.
2. And be if enacted, That all acts of assembly, or any parts
thereof, inconsistent with the provision^ of this act, be and the
some are hereby repealed.

CHAP. CLXVIII.
Further Swpplement to the Act, entitled, An Act to establish a Bank
and incorporate a Company, under the name of The Cumberland Bank of
Alleghany.
WHEREAS it appears to this general assembly of Maryland;
by the, petition of the commissioners appointed to settle and
close the concerns of said bank, that the compensation autho-
rised to be allowed them for their services rendered, and to be
rendered, in the discharge of their duties as commissioners as
aforesaid, is not an adequate compensation; Therefore,

1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland
That instead of the three per cent, to he allowed them under
the act to which this is a further supplement, the judges, or a
majority of them, of the fifth judicial district of Maryland,
shall, once a year if required, adjudge to the said commission
ers such compensation for their services, upon the monies col-
lected, not exceeding ten per cent, as under all circumstances
shall, in the judgment oi said judges, or a majority of them
be equitable and just
