AN ACT concerning

Maryland AIDS Insurance Assistance Pilot Program

FOR the purpose of establishing the Maryland AIDS Insurance Assistance Pilot
Program; authorizing the Secretary of Health and Mental Hygiene to provide for
the continuation of health insurance benefits under certain circumstances to
certain individuals with HIV related disease; who are HIV positive; providing for
a certain annual report; providing for the termination of this Act; and generally
relating to a» the Maryland AIDS insurance assistance program Insurance
Assistance Pilot Program.

BY adding to

Article - Health - General

Section 15-201 through 15-205, inclusive, to be under the new subtitle "Subtitle

2. Maryland AIDS Insurance Assistance Pilot Program"
Annotated Code of Maryland
(1990 Replacement Volume)

Preamble

WHEREAS, Many individuals with HIV-related disease become so ill that they
are unable to continue employment; and

WHEREAS, When they become unemployed many are unable to continue to
purchase health insurance; and

WHEREAS, When they are unable to purchase health care and are medically
needy, many must eventually rely on the Medical Assistance Program; and

WHEREAS, The Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1985 &&4
similar Maryland laws and regulations provide provides for continuation of benefits
under certain circumstances; now, therefore,

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:
