The Governor's Committee on Employment

of People With Disabilities
(Amends Executive Order 01.01.1987.09)

WHEREAS, The Governor's Committee on Employment of the Handicapped was
established by Executive Order 01.01.1986.15 as an agency housed within the
Office for Handicapped Individuals to promote meaningful employment
opportunities for citizens with disabilities as well as public awareness of issues
faced by people with disabilities when seeking employment; and

WHEREAS, There is a continuing and substantial need for the education of the public
regarding the employment abilities and capabilities of people with disabilities; and

WHEREAS, The State of Maryland wishes to reflect the need to emphasize that
citizens with disabilities are people first; and

WHEREAS, The name of the Governor's Committee on Employment of the
Handicapped should be changed to reflect the importance of the people; the new
name henceforth shall be: The Governor's Committee on Employment of People
with Disabilities in order to conform with the name of its national affiliate, the
President's Committee on Employment of People With Disabilities;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, WILLIAM DONALD SCHAEFER, GOVERNOR OF THE
STATE OF MARYLAND, BY VIRTUE OF THE AUTHORITY VESTED IN
ME BY THE CONSTITUTION AND LAWS OF MARYLAND, HEREBY
PROCLAIM THE FOLLOWING ORDER AMENDING EXECUTIVE ORDER

01.01.1987.09:

A. There is a Governor's Committee on Employment of [the Handicapped]
PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES within the Office for Handicapped Individuals
in the Executive Branch of the government.

B. The Governor's Committee on Employment of [the Handicapped] PEOPLE
WITH DISABILITIES is affiliated with the President's Committee on
Employment of [the Handicapped] PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES located in
Washington, D. C.

C. Staff support for the Governor's Committee on Employment of [the
Handicapped] PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES shall be provided by the Office
for Handicapped Individuals.

D. The membership of the Committee shall consist of a total of 35 members
including one representative from:

(1) State Division of Vocational Rehabilitation;
