SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

Article - Agriculture

11-203.

(c) (1) Except as provided in paragraph (2) of this subsection, the
specifications, tolerances, and other technical requirements for commercial weighing
and measuring devices, specified in § 11-204, shall be those adopted by the National
Conference on Weights and Measures and included in the [National Bureau of
Standards] NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF STANDARDS AND TECHNOLOGY
Handbook 44, as amended. These specifications, tolerances, and other technical
requirements shall remain in effect unless modified or rescinded by a rule or regulation
adopted by the Secretary.

(2) Nothing in the specifications, tolerances, and other technical
requirements for commercial weighing and measuring devices adopted by the National
Conference on Weights and Measures and included in the [National Bureau of
Standards] NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF STANDARDS AND TECHNOLOGY
Handbook 44 prevents a person from using a commercial vehicle scale to measure
minimum loads of less than 1,000 pounds on the vehicle.

11-301.

(a) The system of weights and measures in customary use in the United States
and the metric system of weights and measures are jointly recognized. Either one or
both of these systems shall be used for all commercial purposes in the State. The
definitions of the basic units of weight and measure, the tables of weight and measure,
and weights and measures equivalents as published by the [National Bureau of
Standards] NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF STANDARDS AND TECHNOLOGY are
recognized and shall govern weighing and measuring equipment and transactions in the
State except as otherwise provided.
