AN ACT concerning

Health Occupations - Prescribers of Medicine

FOR the purpose of altering the Health Occupations Article definition of "authorized
prescriber" to include any other individual authorized by law to prescribe drugs,
medicine, or devices; ratifying and confirming certain actions performed from and
after a certain date; and making this Act an emergency measure.

BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

Article - Health Occupations

12-101.

(b) "Authorized prescriber" means any licensed dentist, licensed physician,
licensed podiatrist, [or] licensed veterinarian, OR OTHER INDIVIDUAL
AUTHORIZED BY LAW TO PRESCRIBE DRUGS, MEDICINES, OR DEVICES.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That the General Assembly
hereby ratifies and confirms all of the actions taken by nurse practitioners and licensed
pharmacists in writing and filling otherwise lawfully written and filled prescriptions
done after July 1, 1980.

SECTION 3. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act is an
emergency measure, is necessary for the immediate preservation of the public health
and safety, has been passed by a yea and nay vote supported by three-fifths of all the
members elected to each of the two Houses of the General Assembly, and shall take
effect from the date it is enacted.
