Dear Mr. President:

In accordance with Article II, Section 17 of the Maryland Constitution, I have today
vetoed Senate Bill 589.

This bill increases the maximum annual salary for the Registers of Wills and the Clerks
of the Circuit Courts.

House Bill 540, which was passed by the General Assembly and signed by me on May
29, 1990, accomplishes the same purpose. Therefore, it is not necessary for me to sign
Senate Bill 589.

AN ACT concerning

Registers of Wills and Clerks of the Circuit Courts - Salaries

FOR the purpose of altering the maximum salary that may be received by a register of
wills or a clerk of the circuit court; providing that this Act does not affect
incumbents; making stylistic changes; and generally relating to the compensation
of registers of wills and clerks of the circuit court.
