Ch. 671 LAWS OF MARYLAND
248A.

(a) Nothing in this subtitle shall be construed to make it unlawful for any bona
fide fraternal, religious, patriotic, educational or charitable organization or corporation,
or volunteer fire company located in Carroll County to conduct or operate a game of
bingo in Carroll County for the benefit of charity or in furtherance of the purposes of
the organization, corporation or volunteer fire company.

(b) Any game of bingo conducted or operated under the provisions of this
section shall be conducted or operated by the organization, corporation or volunteer
fire company securing the permit therefor; and the right to conduct or operate the game
of bingo shall not be transferred or assigned to any other person, firm, or corporation.

(c) The organization, corporation, or volunteer fire company desiring to conduct
or operate a game of bingo under the provisions of this section shall first obtain a
permit therefor from the Board of County Commissioners of Carroll County and shall
pay a fee to be determined by the Board of County Commissioners to defray the cost of
issuing such a permit.

(d) (1) [No such] A bingo game [shall] MAY NOT award a cash prize in
excess of $100 to any player of a REGULAR bingo game[, except that] OR IN
EXCESS OF $250 TO ANY PLAYER OF A SPECIAL BINGO GAME SUCH AS A
BUILD-UP OR PROGRESSIVE POT GAME, SPLIT-THE-POT GAME, OR
WINNER-TAKE-ALL GAME.

(2) NOTWITHSTANDING PARAGRAPH (1) OF THIS SUBSECTION,
the award of a "jackpot" in an amount not to exceed $1,000 is allowed when directly
connected with the playing of bingo games.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall take
effect July 1, 1990.

FOR the purpose of altering the definition of a medical review committee to include a
certain organizations organization that contract contracts with hospitals, related
institutions, or alternative health delivery systems to assist in performing certain
functions of a medical review committee.
