for said county, destroyed by fire on this morning, the 8th May,
and to borrow a sum sufficient to re-build the same, and to issue
the bonds of the county for the amount so borrowed. Interest
payable semi-annually.

The Clerk of the House of Delegates returned the following
bill:

A bill, entitled, An act to amend the 151st and 154th sections,
relating to the schools of Talbot county, of article twenty of the
Code of Public Local Laws, and to add new sections thereto.

Endorsed "passed by yeas and nays."

Also, delivered the following bills.

A bill entitled, An act to repeal the 49 and 50th sections, re-
lating to free negroes, of article sixty-six, of the Code of Public
General Laws.

Which was read the first time, and referred to the Com-
mittee on Colored Population.

A bill, entitled, An act making an appropriation for the Mary-
land Penitentiary.

Which was read the first time, and referred to Messrs. Heck-
art, Grahame, and Lynch.

Mr. Heckart presented the petition of fifty-four citizens of
Port Deposite, Cecil county, against the passage of a bill ap-
pointing a Committee of Safety.

Which was read, and referred to Messrs. Yellott, McKaig,
Goldsborough, of Talbot, Whitaker and Watkins.

A bill, entitled, An act to amend the eighty-third article of
the Code of Public General Laws, by exempting a certain
amount of property from execution,

Was taken up.

Mr. Miles offered the following

AMENDMENT:

In the fourth line of the sixth section, after the words, "any
contract," strike out the words, uor for," and insert the words,
"or to."

Which was adopted.

The .bill was then read the third time, and patted by yets and
nays as follows:
