federacy, two on the Governor of Pennsylvania, and two on the
Governor of Virginia, with the view of bringing about some un-
derstanding, whereby present dangers may be averted and civil
war and the destruction of the lives and property of our citizens
may be prevented; and that said Committee be and is hereby espe-
cially instructed to obtain, if possible, a general cessation of hos-
tilities now impending, until the meeting of Congress in July
next, in order that said body may, if possible, arrange for an ad-
justment of existing troubles by means of the ballot box rather
than the sword.

Resolved, That said Committee consist of Messrs. ———-
and ————, of the Senate, and Messrs. ———— and ————, of
the House of Delegates.

Which were read the first time.

Mr. Yellott moved to suspend the rules, in order to give the
resolutions a second reading.

Mr. Stone moved to adjourn.

The yeas and nays being demanded, appeared as follows:

AFFIRMATIVE.

Messrs. Bradley, Kimmel,

Duvall, Nuttle,

Goldsborough, of Talbot; Smith,

Goldsborough, of Dor.; Stone—8.

NEGATIVE-

Messrs. Brooke, President; Lynch,

Blackistone, McKaig,

Dashiell, Watkins,

Franklin, Whitaker,

Heckart, Yellott—10.

So the Senate refused to adjourn.

On motion of Mr. Yellott,

A call of the Senate being ordered, the following Senators
answered to their names:

Messrs. Brooke, President; Blackistone, Bradley, Duvall,
Dashiell, Franklin, Goldsborough, of Talbot, Goldsborough, of
Dorchester, Heckart, Kimmel, Lynch, McKaig, Nuttle, Smith,
Stone, Watkins, Whitaker and Yellott.

The Sergeant-at-Arms returned, and reported that be had
notified the absent Senators that their attendance was required
at the Senate Chamber.
