Population: ca. 82,875

Note: The northern and eastern state boundaries were
not ascertained until acceptance of the Mason and Dixon
Line in 1769. Because of the uncertain metes and bounds
described in the Charter, the boundary between
Maryland and Virginia (and after 1863, West Virginia)
was not officially determined until the 20th century.

Shading indicates county boundaries and extent of
settlement as determined by Edward B. Mathews.
