in Maryland, of age by 1759; probably eldest child.
IMMIGRATED/NATIVE: unknown. RESIDED: in Deer
Creek Upper Hundred, Baltimore (later became
Harford) County. FAMILY BACKGROUND. FATHER:
Samuel Webb (?-1788), a tanner, who probably
immigrated to Baltimore County before 1741.
MOTHER: Jane. BROTHER: Samuel (1746-?), who
married in 1764 Margaret Tudor. SISTERS: Jane
(ca. 1741-?); Faithfull (1743-?), who married in
1764 Jacob Forwood; Margaret (1752-?), who
married (first name unknown) Brierly; and Sarah

daughter of James Lee (ca. 1704-1778), Gent.,
of Deer Creek, Harford County, planter, and wife

(ca. 1744-?), who married William Morgan (ca.

probably a sadler working in conjunction with his
father's tanyard. PUBLIC CAREER. LEGISLATIVE
SERVICE: 5th Convention, Harford County, 1775.
LOCAL OFFICES: churchwarden, St. George's Par-
ish, Baltimore County, 1759-1760; St. George's
Parish Vestry, Baltimore and Harford counties,
1760-1762, 1766-1768, appointed 1775; justice.
Baltimore County, 1772-1773, Harford County,
1774-1777; Committee of Correspondence, Har-
ford County, appointed June 1774; Committee of
Observation, Harford County, December 1774-
at least February 1777; justice. Orphans' Court,
Harford County, appointed 1777. MILITARY
SERVICE: captain, 16th Company, Harford County
Militia, elected October 14, 1775, commissioned
April 26, 1776. STANDS ON PUBLIC/PRIVATE IS-
SUES: signed Bush Declaration, Harford County,
March 22, 1775. WEALTH DURING LIFETIME. LAND
AT FIRST ELECTION: 50 acres in Harford County
(by purchase). SIGNIFICANT CHANGES IN LAND BE-

in Harford County, 1777. WEALTH AT DEATH. DIED:
administration bond dated May 26, 1778, in Har-
ford County. PERSONAL PROPERTY. TEV, at least
£188.18.0 current money (including 4 slaves, plate
valued at £1.5.0, and 2 books). ADDITION AL COM-
MENT: Webb's wife died sometime before 1775,
and at his death Webb was probably living in his
father's household. His inventory includes no
household or plantation equipment. LAND: none.

WEBSTER, JOHN LEE (ca. 1735-1795). BORN.
ca. 1735, in Baltimore County; probably second
son. NATIVE: at least third generation. RESIDED:
in Baltimore (later became Spesutia Lower
Hundred, Harford) County. FAMILY BACK-
GROUND. FATHER: Isaac Webster (?-1759) of Bal-
timore County, son of John Webster (?-1753);
both were Quakers. MOTHER: Margaret, daugh-
ter of James Lee (?-ca. 1732) of Baltimore County,
planter. BROTHERS: Isaac (1730-?), who married
Elizabeth; James; and Samuel. SISTERS: Hannah
(1724-?), who married first, in 1742, Samuel Gover
(?-1744), a mariner, and second, in 1749, Nathan
Richardson (?-1756); Margaret (1725/26-?), who
married in 1741 John Talbot; Mary (1728-?), who
married in 1748 Robert Pleasants, of John; Su-
sannah, who married in 1759 Robert Pleasants,
Jr., of Thomas; Cassandra, who married in 1763
Jonathan Massey; Elizabeth, who married (first
name unknown) Robertson; Sarah (?-by 1769),

daughter of John Hall (1722-1768) of Swantown,
Baltimore County, and wife Susanna Marshall
(1726-1744). Susanna was the stepdaughter of
Cordelia Night Holland. She was the niece of
Aquila Hall (1727-1779). Her half brothers were
Aquila; William (ca. 1749-?); and Parker (1765-
?). Her stepbrother was Francis Holland (ca. 1745-
1795). Her half sisters were Cordelia (1758-?);
Sarah (1760-?). Her first cousins were Charlotte
Hall (1758-1838), who married Nathaniel Ramsey
(1741-1817); Sophia Hall (1765-?), who married
Philip Key (1750-1820). MARRIED second, be-
