WARFIELD, RICHARD (ca 1677-1755) BORN:
ca. 1677, in Anne Arundel County; probably sec-
ond son. NATIVE, second generation. RESIDED: in
Anne Arundel County, about nine miles from
Annapolis. FAMILY BACKGROUND. FATHER: Rich-

ard Warfield (?-1703/4) of Anne Arundel County,
who was transported to Maryland in ca. 1662 and
owned over 1,400 acres at death. MOTHER: Eli-
nor, daughter of Capt. John Browne, a mariner
of London. BROTHERS: John (1675-1718), who
married in 1696 Ruth Gaither; Alexander Warfield
(1678-1740); and Benjamin (1680-1717/18), who
married in 1703 Elizabeth Duvall. SISTERS: Mary
(?-by 1703/4), who married Capt. John Howard
(ca. 1667-1704); Rachel (1681-1709), who mar-
ried George Yates (1674-1717); and Elinor (1683-
1752), who married in 1704 Caleb Dorsey (ca.
1684-1742), son of John Dorsey (ca. 1645-1714/

Baldwin (?-1752); Hannah Howard, who mar-
ried first, Charles Hammond (ca. 1670-1713), and
second, Edmond Benson (1687-1734). CHILDREN.
SON: Alexander (?-1773), who married in 1723
Dinah Davidge. DAUGHTERS: Ruth, who married
Joseph Hall; Rachel, who married in 1726 Robert
Davidge; and Lydia, who married first, Dr. Sam-
uel Stringer (?-1747), and second, Charles Ridgely
(by 1705-1772). PRIVATE CAREER. EDUCATION:
literate. RELIGIOUS AFFILIATION. Anglican; of-
fered to build a pew at his own expense in St.
Anne's Parish Church, Annapolis, Anne Arundel
County, 1727. SOCIAL STATUS AND ACTIVITIES:
Esq., by 1723; described in his obituary as a
"gentleman of upright and unblemished charac-
ter." OCCUPATIONAL PROFILE, planter, possibly
