ginia. His grandfather, Hendrick Waggaman (?-
1682), probably immigrated to Virginia from Am-
sterdam by 1660. RESIDED, on "Waggaman's Pur-
chase" at the head of Great Monie Creek, Som-
erset County. Purported to have built his plantation
"Monie" there. FAMILY BACKGROUND. FATHER:
Jonathan Waggaman (?-1724) of Accomack
County, Virginia. MOTHER: Margaret Eliot (El-
liott), daughter of William Eliot of London. STEP-
MOTHER: Comfort. BROTHERS: William Elliott (?-
1747), a sea captain in the East India service,
who died in Calcutta; Ephraim (?-1758), sheriff
of Worcester County, 1752-1755, who married
Mary Scott; and Jacob (?-1739), Gent., of Som-
erset County, who married Eleanor (last name
unknown). MARRIED between 1739 and 1742 Mary
(?-1780), daughter of Levin Woolford (1683-
1721) and wife Sarah Jones (1691-?). Mary was
the granddaughter of Roger Woolford (?-ca. 1701/
2). She was the niece of Roger Woolford (1670-
1730); Mary Woolford, who married Henry Hooper
(ca. 1643-1720); Elizabeth Woolford (1664/65-
1739), who married first, Thomas Ennalls (?-1718),
and second, William Holland (?-1732); and Sarah
Woolford (1672/73-by 1730), who married Go-
vert Lookerman (ca. 1681-1728). Her sister was
Martha, who married Samuel Wilson (?-1748).
Her first cousins were James Woolford (ca. 1736-
ca. 1783); Thomas Woolford (ca. 1699-ca. 1750/
51); Henry Hooper (ca. 1687-1767); Mary Hooper
(1674-1745), who married Henry Ennalls (1675-
1734); Elizabeth Hooper, who married Matthew
Travers (ca. 1672-1742); Anne Hooper, who
married John Broome (1676-ca. 1738/39); Mary
Hooper (?-ca. 1757), who married second, John
Rider (1686-1739/40); and Sarah Lookerman (?-
by 1745), who married Joseph Cox Gray (?-1764).
Her nephew was Levin Wilson (1735-1791). CHIL-

1753 in Monie Hundred, Somerset County. NA-
TIVE: second generation. RESIDED: maintained
residences at "Monie," at the head of Great Monie
Creek, Monie Hundred, Somerset County, until
at least 1788, and at "Fairview," Upper District,
Dorchester County, from ca. 1785 until death.
