1711 (quorum, 1696-1698, 1699-1711; president,
1699-1711); All Saints' Parish Vestry, Calvert
County, 1693-1711. MILITARY SERVICE: captain,

1706; colonel, 1706-1711. STANDS ON PUBLIC/PRI-
VATE ISSUES: opposed Revolution of Protestant
Associators in 1689; proprietary loyalties pre-
vented him from receiving appointments to public
office until governorship of Francis Nicholson

Rousby (?-1685/86), daughter of Henry Morgan
(ca. 1616-1663). Barbara was the stepdaughter
of Jonathan Sybray (?-1684). STEPMOTHER: Maria
Johanna Somerset, widow of Col. (first name un-
known) Lowther. UNCLE: Walter Smith (?-1711).
HALF BROTHERS: Richard, who married Eliza-
beth, daughter of Francis Hutchins (?-1698);
