(ca. 1669-1738). STEPFATHER: John Davis (?-
1740). MOTHER: Mary (?-1748), daughter of Mi-
chael Russell and wife Rebecca; stepdaughter of
Perry Benson (1694-1751). HALF BROTHER: Wil-
liam Davis. STEPBROTHER: John Davis. SISTERS:

Rebecca, who married James Wrightson; Mary
(?-by 1748). STEPSISTERS: Ann Davis; Sybilla
Davis; and Susanna Davis, who married John
Garey. MARRIED by 1753 Mary (ca. 1732-1810),
daughter of Francis Money (?-ca. 1736) of Dor-
chester County and wife Mary. Her sisters were
Elizabeth, who married in 1749 Hugh Spencer
(?-1760); and Ann. CHILDREN. At least SON. Hugh

sion of the 1778-1779 Assembly). LOCAL OF-
FICES: churchwarden, St. Michael's Parish, Tal-
bot County, 1755-1756; St. Michael's Parish
Vestry, Talbot County, elected 1765, 1771, 1777,
1784, term ended 1788; sheriff, Talbot County,
1768-1771; coroner, Talbot County, appointed
1771; justice, Talbot County, 1777-1779; com-
missioner of the tax, Talbot County, appointed
1777, 1778, 1779, 1781, 1782, January 1783, De-
cember 1783, 1785, 1786, 1790, 1792; judge, Court
of Appeals for Tax Assessments, Talbot County,
appointed 1778; trustee of Alms and Work House,
Talbot County, in office 1782; trustee of the poor,
Talbot County, appointed 1786; organizer of
charity school, Talbot County, 1787. WEALTH

DURING LIFETIME. PERSONAL PROPERTY: heir to two-

thirds of his father's land, which was in the control
of John Davis in 1740. The property included the
dwelling of Daniel Sherwood (ca. 1669-1738), a
brick storehouse, 6 outbuildings (all with rotten
roofs), 350 apple trees, and a small farm with a
dwelling and tobacco house in poor condition.
Thomas's share of the yearly rent on the property
was 1,000 pounds of tobacco. Value of personal
property assessed at £615.0.0, including 13 slaves
and 24 oz. plate, 1783; 15 slaves, 1790. LAND AT
FIRST ELECTION: probably 947 acres in Talbot and
Dorchester counties (525 acres in Talbot County
inherited from his parents and paternal grand-
father, ca. 222 acres of his mother's land in Talbot
County received from his sister Rebecca, and
probably 200 acres in Dorchester County ac-
quired through his marriage). SIGNIFICANT

CHANGES IN LAND BETWEEN FIRST ELECTION AND

DEATH. By 1783 he had given his son, Hugh Sher-
wood, of Huntington (ca. 1752-1807), the ca. 222
acres of land in Talbot County he had received
from his sister Rebecca, and probably sold his
wife's 200 acres of land in Dorchester County.
Charged with 525 acres in Talbot County, 1783.
Purchased ca. 130 acres, including lot 14, all in
or near the town of St. Michael's, Talbot County,
1785 and 1791. Acquired 152 acres in Talbot
County adjoining his home plantation and re-
surveyed several tracts into one large tract with
a net loss of 60 acres, 1791. Purchased two tracts
(possibly ca. 100 acres) in 1792 and 8 acres in
1794, all in Talbot County. WEALTH AT DEATH.
DIED: probably between September 29, 1794, and
July 24, 1798. However, Thomas could have been
dead by May 7, 1796, when his son sold the two
tracts of land purchased by Thomas in 1792. LAND:
probably 854 acres in Talbot County.

SHRIVER (SCHREIBER, SCHRIVER, SHRI-
GER), DAVID (1735-1826). BORN: in 1735 near
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. IMMIGRATED, ca. 1760
from Conewago, Pennsylvania. RESIDED, in Pipe
Creek, Westminster District, Frederick (later be-
came part of Carroll) County. FAMILY BACK-
GROUND. FATHER. Andreas Schreiber, son of An-
dreas Schreiber (?-1723), who immigrated with
his parents from the Palatine area of Germany
before 1723 and resided near Philadelphia.
MOTHER. Ann Maria Keiser. MARRIED by 1762
Rebecca (ca. 1741-1812), daughter of Abraham
Ferree (Ferrie) of Pequea, Pennsylvania, and wife
Elizabeth Eltinge (?-after 1784) of Esopus, New
York. Rebecca was the stepdaughter of John Cer-
ekus of Strousburgh Township, Lancaster County,
Pennsylvania. She was the granddaughter of Philip
Ferree. Her brothers were Israel; Cornelius. Her
sisters were Rachel, who married David Muskim-
mins; Elizabeth, who married William Miller; and
Mary, who married first, (first name unknown)
Graff, and second, Griffith Willett. OTHER KIN-
SHIP, great-grandmother, Mary Warrinbuer Feree
(?-1716) of Conestoga Township, Lancaster
County, Pennsylvania. CHILDREN. SONS: Andrew
(1762-1847), who resided in York County, Penn-
sylvania; David (1769-1852), who resided Pipe
Creek, Frederick County, and was elected to the
Lower House in 1807; Abraham (1771-1848),
who married Ann Margaret (last name unknown)
(1777-1840); Isaac (1777-1856), who married
Anna Mary (last name unknown); and Jacob
(1779-1841), who married Anneva (last name
