1 There is very little extant source material from which to obtain a roster for the Second and Third Conventions. Elec-
tions were held in the various counties in late October and early November, 1774, to choose delegates to the Second
Convention. The Maryland Gazette reports the results of these elections for Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Calvert, Charles,
Frederick, and Prince George's counties, but there is no record of the results from the other counties.

Fifty-seven delegates assembled in Annapolis on November 21, 1774, but the only name noted in the proceedings of
the Convention is that of Matthew Tilghman, chairman. Because a number of counties were not fully represented, the
Second Convention adjourned on November 25, 1774.

On December 8, 1774, eighty-five delegates met in Annapolis, but again the proceedings do not include the names of
any men present except John Hall, "in the Chair." The Convention adjourned on December 12, 1774. On December
19, the Baltimore Maryland Journal printed the names of the delegates appearing for the Third Convention. It is un-
clear from the wording whether the list includes only those men present on December 8, or is a complete roster of all
those who appeared at any time during the Convention.

The session list for the Second and Third Conventions has been compiled from these meager sources. An asterisk has
been placed after those counties for which election results are known, and all elected delegates were named. It is proba-
ble that those men who are listed as attending the Third Convention also represented their county in the Second Con-
vention.

2 These members were not reported in the December 19 issue of the Maryland Journal. They may not have attended any
meetings of the Third Convention, or they may simply have been overlooked by the Maryland Journal
