(1627-1697). She was the niece of Charles Ham-
mond (ca. 1670-1713); Thomas Hammond (?-ca.
1724/25); Charles Greenberry (1672-1713); and
Elizabeth Greenberry (1678-1719/20), who mar-
ried Robert Goldsborough (1660-1746). Her
brothers were Thomas John (1697-1767); Nicho-
las (1703/4-1743). Her sisters were Elizabeth;
Anne (1697-1708); and Comfort (1701-?). Her
first cousins were Philip Hammond (1697-1760);
Ruth Hammond, who married second, Thomas
Franklin (ca. 1706- 1787); Charles Hammond (1692/
93-1772); Thomas Hammond (1693-?); Eliza-
beth Ridgely (?-1734), who married Thomas
Worthington (ca. 1691-1752/53); Charles Golds-
borough(1707-1767); William Goldsborough (1709-
1760); and John Goldsborough (1711-1778). Her
nephew was probably Samuel Worthington (1734-
1815). Rachel Hammond Moale married second,
by 1742, George Bailey. CHILDREN. SONS: John

of Baltimore Town, an early and enthusiastic con-
vert to Methodism, who married Frances Hatton
Chase, sister of Jeremiah Townly Chase (1748-

OCCUPATIONAL PROFILE: a merchant with a store
in Baltimore Town and a half interest in three
sloops at the time of his death; also maintained

ICE: Lower House, Baltimore County, 1734/35-
1737 (Bills of Credit 1, Cv, 2-4), 1738 (Aggriev-
ances; Bills of Credit), 1739-40 (Aggrievances,
Cv, 1; Bills of Credit Cv, 1; died during the 1st
session of 1739-1741 Assembly). LOCAL OFFICE:
St. Paul's Parish Vestry, Baltimore County, 1730-
1733. STANDS ON PUBLIC/PRIVATE ISSUES: cred-
ited with defeating the General Assemby bill that
would have located Baltimore Town on the north
side of the middle branch of the Patapsco River.
The site originally petitioned for as the town was
on his property, which he believed was rich in
iron ore. Moale apparently felt the land would
be more advantageous to him as a mining site

uary 2, ca. 1731, in St. Paul's Parish, Baltimore
County; elder son. NATIVE: second generation.
RESIDED: in Baltimore County; Baltimore Town
by 1770. By 1780 Moale was spending part of the
year in Baltimore Town and the rest at "Green
Spring Forrest," his wife's plantation in Balti-
more County. His town house at death was lo-
cated at Sharp Street and German Lane in Bal-

Bailey. MOTHER: Rachel (1708-ca. 1749), daugh-
ter of John Hammond (1665-1742/43). BROTHER:

SIN : Samuel Worthington (1734-1815). MARRIED
on May 25, 1758, Ellin (ca. 1740-1825), daughter
of Capt. Robert North (1698-1748/49) and wife
Frances Todd (ca. 1709-1745). Ellin's step-
mother was Catherine. Her brother was Thomas
(ca. 1732-ca. 1750). Her sisters were Elizabeth
(1731-1805), who married first, in 1751, Chris-
topher Carnan (ca. 1730-1769), and second, in
1773, Samuel Johnston of York County, Penn-
sylvania; Frances (1743-1743). OTHER KINSHIP:
