SONAL PROPERTY: TEV, at least $5,583.10 (in-
cluding 29 slaves, books, and plate). LAND: 207
acres in St. Mary's County.

JORDAN, JOHN (?-1763). BORN: probably in
St. Mary's County. NATIVE: at least second gen-
eration. RESIDED: in Charles County. FAMILY
BACKGROUND. FATHER: named Justinian, proba-
bly Justinian Jordan (ca. 1686-1749). MOTHER:
probably Mary, daughter of John Coode (ca. 1648-
1708/9). BROTHERS: probably Justinian (?-1759);
William (?-ca. 1775); James Jordan (?-1787);
Jeremiah Jordan (ca. 1733-1806); and Charles
(?-1790). SISTERS: probably several, names un-
known. MARRIED Eleanor, daughter of William
Dent (1706-1757) of Charles County and wife
Anne Warren. Eleanor was the granddaughter of
Thomas Dent (1685-1725). Her brothers were
Warren Dent (?-1794); George, who married first,
Rose Townshend Knox (?-1794), and second, in
1796, Elizabeth Harrison Knox. Her sisters were
Judith, who married Jeremiah Chase (?-1755);
Mary, who married the Rev. William Dowie; Ann,
who married Samuel Briscoe (?-1796); Rebecca,
who married William Harrison (?-1789); and
Grace, who married Robert Harrison. Her niece
was Mary Hanson Briscoe, who married Michael
Jenifer Stone (1747-1812). CHILDREN. SONS: Wil-
liam (?-died a minor); John (?-1788), who mar-
ried Sarah, whose second husband was David
Easton of Washington, D.C. DAUGHTER: Anne,
who married William Harrison of Charles County.

REER. EDUCATION: literate. RELIGIOUS AFFILIA-
TION: Catholic. SOCIAL STATUS AND ACTIVITIES:
as "William Joseph, Gent, of London," arrived
with commission as chief executive of the colony.
OCCUPATIONAL PROFILE: merchant in Dublin;
planter in Maryland. PUBLIC CAREER. LEGISLA-

fore the 2nd session of the 1686-1688 Assembly).
