HYNSON (HINSON), CHARLES (1663-1711).
BORN: in 1663 in Kent County; third son. NATIVE:
second generation. RESIDED: in Kent County.

FAMILY BACKGROUND. FATHER: Thomas Hynson

(1620-ca. 1667/68). MOTHER: Grace. BROTHERS:
John Hynson (?-1705); Thomas (?-1679). SISTERS:
Grace; Ann, who married first, Benjamin Randall,
second, Joseph Wickes (ca. 1620-1692), and third,
St. Leger Codd (ca. 1634-ca. 1707/8). MARRIED in
1686/87 Margaret, daughter of William Marns
(ca. 1644-1712). Her brother was James Harris
(1682-1743). Her sisters were Tabitha, who mar-
ried Marmaduke Tilden (?-1726); Mary. CHIL-
DREN. SONS: Thomas (1688-?); Charles Hynson
(1692-1748); and William Hynson (1708-1767).
DAUGHTERS: Dorcas (1690-?); Judith (1694-

times as an unsuccessful candidate for burgess,
1701-1708. LOCAL OFFICES: clerk, Kent County,
1692-1694; justice, Kent County, 1694-1696,
1697-1704 (quorum, 1701/2-1704); St. Paul's Par-
ish Vestry, Kent County, 1699-1703, 1708-1710.

WEALTH DURING LIFETIME. PERSONAL PROP-
ERTY: inherited 11,000 pounds of tobacco from his
father's estate. LAND AT FIRST ELECTION: at least
250 acres; 150 acres from his wife's dower.

MOTHER: Margaret, daughter of William Harris
(ca. 1644-1712). UNCLES. James Harris (1682-
1743); John Hynson (?-1705). AUNT: Ann Hynson,
who married second, Joseph Wickes (ca. 1620-
1692), and third, St. Leger Codd (ca. 1634-ca.
1707/8). BROTHERS: Thomas (1688-?); William
Hynson (1708-1767). SISTERS: Dorcas (1690-?);

Judith (1694-1703); Margaret (1697-?); Jane
(1700-1702); and Jane (Joan) (1702-?). FIRST
COUSINS: John Hynson (ca. 1670-1708); Nathaniel

House, Kent County, 1738, 1739-1741 (Elections
Cv-3; Bills of Credit 1-3). LOCAL OFFICES deputy
commissary, Kent County, 1722-1727, 1742-
1748; justice, Kent County, 1730-at least 1747
(quorum, 1733-at least 1747); justice, Court of
Oyer and Terminer and Gaol Delivery, Kent
County, commissioned 1737, 1740, 1742, 1744,
and 1746. MILITARY SERVICE: colonel, 1748.

WEALTH DURING LIFETIME. LAND AT FIRST

ELECTION: 1,873 acres in Kent County, plus 2 lots
in Chestertown, Kent County (all by personal ac-
quisition). SIGNIFICANT CHANGES IN LAND BE-
TWEEN FIRST ELECTION AND DEATH: purchased

at least 246 acres in Kent County, 1742-1747;
sold 859 acres in Kent County, 1741-1747. By
1747 he held his two Chestertown lots as a tenant
in common with William Murray and Bedingfield
Hands. WEALTH AT DEATH. DIED: will probated
on April 11, 1748, in Kent County. PERSONAL
PROPERTY: TEV, at least £1,431.10.5 current
money (including 32 slaves). LAND: 1,260 acres in
Kent County; also houses and lots in Chester-
town, Kent County.

probably in the late 1640s, probably in Virginia, of
age by 1667; first or second son. IMMIGRATED: in
1651 as a minor with his father from Virginia. RE-
SIDED: in Kent County; Talbot County, by 1670;
