DEATH. DIED: on Saturday morning, November 24,
1798, in Talbot County. PERSONAL PROPERTY:
TEV, £8,197.0.0 current money (including 79
slaves, 227.5 oz. plate, a library of law books and
other books); FB, £6,235.19.3. LAND, at least
1,828 acres in Talbot, Queen Anne's, and
Baltimore counties.

GOLDSBOROUGH, THOMAS (ca 1728-1793)
BORN: on February 24, ca. 1728, probably at "Ot-
well," Talbot County; second son. NATIVE: proba-
bly third generation. RESIDED: in Talbot County;
Upper Choptank District, Caroline County, 1773;
Talbot County, by 1792 until death. FAMILY
BACKGROUND. FATHER: Nicholas Goldsborough
(ca. 1689-1766). MOTHER: Sarah (1706-ca. 1772),
daughter of Foster Turbutt (1679-1720/21).
AUNTS: Elizabeth Turbutt (ca. 1708-?), who mar-
ried in 1724 Tench Francis (1701-1758); Anne
Turbutt (1715-1766), who married John Golds-
borough (1711-1778). BROTHERS: Nicholas
(1726/27-1777); Robert (1730-1736); Robert
(1736/37-1740); and Foster (ca. 1738-1777). SIS-
TERS: Ann (1722/23-ca. 1726); Sarah (1724-?);
Ann (1732-?), who married Edward Oldham
(1709-1773); Rachel (1734-1796); Mary (1740-
1812); Elizabeth (1742-1776); and Bridget (1744-
1774). FIRST COUSINS: Howes Goldsborough
(1747-1797); William Goldsborough (1750/51-
1801); Ann Francis (1727-?), who married James
Tilghman (1716-1793); Elizabeth Goldsborough
(1735-ca. 1786), who married second, Benson
Stainton (?-ca. 1781); and Mary Goldsborough
(1755-1796), who married Benedict Brice (1749-
1786). MARRIED after 1775 Catherine (ca. 1755-
1825), daughter of Griffin Fauntleroy (?-by 1774),
of Northumberland County, Virginia, and wife
Judith Swan (?-1774). Catherine was a niece of
George Washington (1731/32-1799). Her brothers
were Griffin, who married Sarah; Capt. John (?-
1785), who married (first name unknown) Keene,
daughter of William Keene, of Virginia, and died
in Kentucky; and Swan. Her sisters were Sarah;
Ann, who married first, (first name unknown)
Colson, and second, William Keene, of Virginia.
CHILDREN. SONS: Thomas, who married on Octo-
ber 2, 1801, Maria, daughter of the Hon. James
Thomas, of Annapolis; Griffin (?-by 1791).
DAUGHTERS: Sarah Fauntleroy, who married in
1808 Dr. John Barnett; Catherine, who married on
June 3, 1798, Dr. Nathaniel Potter (1770-1843),
son of Zabdiel Potter (?-1793). PRIVATE CAREER.
EDUCATION: literate. RELIGIOUS AFFILIATION: An-
glican; baptized by Rev. Daniel Maynadier, of St.
Peter's Parish, Talbot County. SOCIAL STATUS

AND ACTIVITIES: Esq., 1762. OCCUPATIONAL PRO-
FILE: lawyer, admitted to the following courts:
Talbot County in 1752; Queen Anne's County in
1755; Provincial Court in 1765. Probably also a
planter. PUBLIC CAREER. LEGISLATIVE SERVICE:
Conventions, Caroline County, 1st, 1774, 4th,
1775; Lower House, Caroline County, 1786-1787
(elected, but did not attend). LOCAL OFFICES: St.
Peter's Parish Vestry, Talbot County, by 1756-at
least 1759, by 1763-at least 1766; commissioner to
purchase land for a courthouse and prison, Caro-
line County, appointed 1773; commissioner of tax,
Caroline County, 1777-at least 1782; justice, Or-
phans' Court, Caroline County, commissioned
1781; judge, Court of Appeals for Tax Assess-
ment, Caroline County, 1786. WEALTH DURING
LIFETIME. PERSONAL PROPERTY: assessed value
£1,681.0.0, including 32 slaves and 49 oz. plate,
1783; 13 slaves, 1790. LAND AT FIRST ELECTION:
1,042 acres in Queen Anne's and Talbot counties
(974 acres from his father, 68 acres by purchase).
WEALTH AT DEATH. DIED, on March 9, 1793, in
Talbot County. PERSONAL PROPERTY: TEV,
£5,059.7.7 current money (including 30 slaves, 60
oz. plate, 11 law books, plus other books); FB,
£2,238.9.3. LAND: 1,315 acres in Caroline and Tal-
bot counties. ADDITIONAL COMMENTS: In his will
he instructed that his son, Thomas, be educated in
mathematics and English grammar and then be
apprenticed to a worthy attorney for a minimum
of five years.

GOLDSBOROUGH, WILLIAM (1709-1760).
BORN: on Wednesday, July 6, 1709, at "Ashby,"
Talbot County; fourth son. NATIVE: second gener-
ation. RESIDED, on Island Creek, Talbot County;
at "Peach Blossom," Talbot County, after 1747.
FAMILY BACKGROUND. FATHER: Robert Golds-
borough (1660-1746). MOTHER: Elizabeth (1678-
1719/20), daughter of Nicholas Greenberry (1627-
1697). UNCLE: Charles Greenberry (1672-1713).
HALF UNCLE: Thomas Robins (1672-1721). AUNT:
Ann Greenberry, who married John Hammond
(ca. 1665-1742/43). BROTHERS: Robert (ca. 1704-
1777); Nicholas (ca. 1704-1756); Charles Golds-
borough (1707-1767); John Goldsborough (1711-
1778); Greenberry (1713--ca. 1716); Howes (1715-
1746); Greenberry (1717-1717); and (first name
unknown) (1718-1718). SISTERS: Ann (1698-ca.
1708); Elizabeth (ca. 1700-ca. 1708); and Mary
(1702-ca. 1742). FIRST COUSINS: Nicholas Golds-
borough (ca. 1689-1766); Elizabeth Ridgely (?-
1734), who married Thomas Worthington (ca.
1691-1753); and Elizabeth Standley, who married
