1754 (Arms and Ammunition 3), 1757-1758,
1758-1761, 1762-1763, 1765-1766 (Grievances 2-
4), 1768-1770 (Grievances 3, Public Offices 2, 3);
Conventions, Calvert County, 5th 1775, 6th-8th,
1775-1776. LOCAL OFFICES: All Saints' Parish
Vestry, Calvert County, appointed 1747 and 1751.

DURING LIFETIME. LAND AT FIRST ELECTION:

probably ca. 800 acres in Calvert County. SIGNIFI-
CANT CHANGES IN LAND BETWEEN FIRST ELEC-
TION AND DEATH: paid quitrents on 907 acres in
Calvert County, 1755; patented 12 acres in Calvert
County in 1760 and obtained a certificate of pa-
tent for 156 acres in Calvert County, 1763; paid
quitrents on 910 acres in Calvert County in 1761;
inherited one-quarter lot in Nottingham, Prince
George's County, from his father in 1765. Paid
quitrents on 826 acres in Calvert County, 1774.
ADDITIONAL COMMENTS. Gantt acted as security
for Fielder Gantt (?-1807) on bonds totaling over
£650 sterling given in 1768 and 1771 to cover the
debts of the Fielderia Furnace in Frederick
County. He accepted mortgages on land and per-
sonal property in Prince George's and Frederick
counties from Fielder Gantt (?-1807). The prop-
erty was then sold to pay off himself and Fielder's
other creditors. WEALTH AT DEATH. DIED: be-
tween mid- 1775 and 1783 in Calvert County.
LAND: probably 826 acres in Calvert County.

George's County, of age by 1780; fifth son. NA-
TIVE: fourth generation. RESIDED, in Prince
George's County; moved to Washington County
before May 1794; lived in Berkley County, Vir-
ginia, by May 1797. FAMILY BACKGROUND. FA-
THER: Thomas Gantt (ca. 1710-1785), son of
Thomas Gantt (?-1765). MOTHER: Eleanor Hillary
(?-1787). UNCLES: Fielder Gantt (?-1807); Edward
Gantt (?-by 1783). AUNT: Ann Gantt, who mar-
ried John Brome (1703-1748). BROTHERS: Levi;
Fielder (ca. 1764-1824). HALF BROTHERS: Thomas
Gantt, Jr. (?-1808); John (1740-?); and Edward
(ca. 1741-1837). SISTERS Ann; Elizabeth; Priscilla
(?-ca. 1784); and Sarah, who married Osborn
Sprigg (ca. 1741-1815). HALF SISTERS: Rachel (?-
1793), who married Richard Brooke (1716-1783).
