ter of David Wilson (1704-1750); niece of Samuel
Wilson (1735-1790). Her brother was David, said
to be mentally incompetent in 1777. Her sister was

Jersey (later became Princeton University), 1775.

TIVITIES: member of the American Whig Society,
1775; a founder of the Medical and Chirurgical
Faculty of Maryland, 1799; vice president of the
Medical Society of the District of Columbia. OC-
CUPATIONAL PROFILE: a physician. PUBLIC CA-
REER. LEGISLATIVE SERVICE: Lower House, Som-
erset County, 1784. LOCAL OFFICE: Somerset
Parish Vestry, Somerset County, elected 1792,

MARRIED Mary (?-by 1713), daughter of John Sar-
geant (?-1698), of Talbot County, and wife Mary
(?-1711), of Queen Anne's County. Her sisters
were Elizabeth (?-1708), who married Nicholas
Goldsborough (1662-1705); Katherine, who mar-

ried first, by 1711 (first name unknown) Bowdell,
and second, by 1713 Matthew Erickson; Priscilla,
who married (first name unknown) Brewin; possi-
bly also (first name unknown), who married (first
name unknown) Gibson. Her stepnephew was
Nicholas Goldsborough (ca. 1689-1766). CHIL-
DREN. SONS: Thomas; Philip (ca. 1712-1755), who
married Sarah (?-1755), daughter of Henry Trippe
(?-ca. 1723/24). DAUGHTERS: Katherine (ca.
1703-?), who married Thomas Hammond;

died before the 2nd session). LOCAL OFFICES: jus-
tice, Talbot County, 1706-at least 1719 (quorum,
1707-at least 1719); justice, Court of Oyer and
Terminer and Gaol Delivery, Talbot County, com-
missioned 1716 and 1718. MILITARY SERVICE: ma-
jor, 1716. WEALTH DURING LIFETIME. LAND AT

FIRST ELECTION: at least 1,532 acres in Talbot and
Queen Anne's counties (520 acres inherited from
his father; 200 acres, plus one-third of 200 addi-

Tuckahoe Hundred, Queen Anne's County, 1778;
Caroline County, 1786; Talbot County, 1796.

FAMILY BACKGROUND. FATHER: John Emory (?-

1763), of Queen Anne's County, a planter and the
deputy surveyor of Queen Anne's County in 1743.
MOTHER: Ann (?-1774). BROTHERS: Arthur, who
married Sophia; James (?-1772); John; Thomas;

who married John Fisher; Sarah, who married
William Durding; Rebeccah, who married Caleb
