propriated to pay Ridgely and Melvin, for print-
ing and binding one thousand copies of the
annual report of the Comptroller of the Treas-
ury for the fiscal year ended September thir-
tieth, eighteen hundred and eighty-five.

Appropriation.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this act shall
take effect from the date of its passage.

Approved April 7, 1886.

Effective.

CHAPTER 300.

AN ACT to protect oysters in the waters of the
tributaries of the Potomac river bordering
upon the shores of Saint Mary's county.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General As-
sembly of Maryland, That it shall not be law-
ful for any person or persons to employ any
canoe, boat or vessel in catching or taking
oysters with scoop, scrape, drag or dredge, or
any similar instrument, within the waters of
the tributaries of the Potomac river bordering


upon the shores of Saint Mary's county in
this State, from the eastern side of Breton's
bay, known as Higgin's, to the most north east-
ern point of Blackistone's Island, thence in a
northern and eastern direction with the shore
of said island to the ridge of Sheep's Head Bar,
thence in a southwestern direction to the buoy
on Coade's Flats, thence in a northwestern di-
rection to the southernmost point of Saint
Catherine's, now known as Shank's Island;
nor shall any person or persons take or catch
oysters for sale within said waters, otherwise
than with tongs, as restricted and regulated
by the provisions of the General Oyster Law
in force in this State.

To define limits
for dredgers,&c.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That any person
or persons violating the provisions of this act,
shall be fined a sum not less than fifty dollars
nor more than one hundred dollars, and be
sentenced to the House of Correction for not
less than six months for each and every offense.
