LAWS OF MARYLAND.
CHAPTER 297.

AN ACT to refund to all persons the sum or
sums of money paid by them to Comptroller
of the Treasury for a license to take oysters
with scrapes or dredges in the oyster seasons
of eighteen hundred and eighty-four and
eighteen hundred and eighty-five, as re-
quired by chapter five hundred and eigh-
teen of the acts passed in the January ses-
sion of the year eighteen hundred and eighty-
four, but when boats or vessels were not used
in taking or catching oysters with scrapes
or dredges and only employed in carrying,
buying and selling oysters.

WHEREAS by said act, passed by the General

Preamble.

Assembly of Maryland, no person was allowed
to employ a boat in carrying,, buying and sell-
ing oysters during the said season 'without first
paying a license of three dollars per ton for
said boat to the Comptroller of the Treasury ;
therefore,

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General As-

sembly of Maryland, That the sum of thirty
thousand dollars, or so much thereof as may
be necessary, be and the same is hereby ap-
propriated to refund to the owner or owners
of said boats that were required by said act
to pay to the Comptroller for said season the
said license, and whose boats were only used
in carrying, buying and selling oysters during
said oyster season.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That upon the
oath or affirmation of the master and owner of
such boat or boats, used exclusively in carry-
ing, buying and selling oysters for said season,
made before a Justice of the Peace, Notary
Public, or the Board of Public Works of this
State, that said boat did not have on board
and attached in position any crank, spool,
