HENRY LLOYD, ESQUIRE, GOVERNOR,
CHAPTER 289.
AN ACT to authorize the Clerk of the Superior
Court of Baltimore city to prepare new in-
dexes of the Land Records in his office, and
to restore and transcribe old and mutilated
records.
WHEREAS the indexes of the land records in
the office of the Clerk of the Superior Court of
Baltimore city, and many of the records from

long use, are in a great measure in a mutilated
condition, and in view of the great importance
of these records and indexes, and the large and
increasing business of the office of the Clerk
of the Superior Court of Baltimore city, it is
desirable and proper that said mutilated in-
dexes and records shall be restored, and that
a different system of indexing deeds and other
conveyances in the city of Baltimore, shall be
adopted; therefore,
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General As-
sembly of Maryland, That it shall be the duty
of the Clerk of the Superior Court of Baltimore

city, forthwith, upon the passage of this act,
to formulate and prepare a new plan or system
for the indexing of all deeds, conveyances and
other papers required by law to be recorded
among the land records in his office, and sub-
mit the same to the Supreme Bench of Balti-
more city for its approval.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That upon
the adoption and approval of the plan or sys-
tem of indexing authorized by the first section
of this act, the Clerk of the Superior Court of
Baltimore city is hereby authorized and di-

rected to make and prepare for use in his said
office, a new index of all land records and con-
veyances in his keeping, upon the plan or sys-
tem so adopted and approved, in books suita-
ble for the purpose; and all deeds and con-
veyances hereafter recorded among said land
records, shall be indexed upon the plan or sys-
tem aforesaid.
