all moneys in the hands of the retiring collector shall

be immediately paid over by him to the succeding tax

qualified, who shall receive and credit the same to the

several accounts for which it has been collected; and

the retiring collector shall collect the unpaid taxes

due for the year of his appointment, and pay the same
|
|
|
|
as collected to the then incumbent tax collector, who
|
|
|
|
shall receive and credit the same to the several ac-
|
|
|
|
counts for which it was levied.
|
|
|
|
SEC. 126. The market inspector shall have charge
|
|
|
|
of the public markets, and shall perform such duties
|
|
|
|
as may be prescribed by ordinance. He shall give
|
|
|
|
bond to the mayor and council, to be approved by
|

them, for the faithful discharge of his duties, in such

penalty as the mayor and council may require, and re-

ceive such compensation for his services as they may

SEC. 127. The mayor and council shall fix the salar-
|
|
|
|
ies of other officers of the town, and shall exact bonds
|
|
|
|
to the town in such penalty as they may deem right,

imposed upon them by law and the ordinances of the

town.

|
SEC. 128. The mayor and council shall have power
|
|
|
|
to pass all ordinances necessary for the good govern-
|
|
|
|
ment of the town; to prevent, remove and abate all
|

nuisances or obstructions in or upon the streets, high-

|
ways, lanes or alleys, drains or water courses, or in or
|
|
|
|
upon any lot or lots adjacent thereto, and to provide
|
|
|
|
for imposing a fine or fines upon any person or per-
|
|
|
|
sons causing or creating any such nuisance or obstruc-
|
|
|
|
tion; to remove, or cause to be removed, houses or
|
|
|
|
other structures that may be dangerous to persons
|
|
|
|
passing along and over any of the highways of the
|
|
|
|
town; to make reasonable regulations in regard to
|
|
|
|
buildings to be erected in said town, and to grant
|

grades upon the streets and highways of the town; to

|
cause the sidewalks and gutters along the public

streets and highways of said town to be graded,

of the abutting property or the owner thereof; to
|
|
|
|
cause the water courses, drains or sewers of the town

to be paved, kept in repair and cleansed; to establish
