One point I would like to make is this.

Maryland has had two Republican Governors since 1922 to

7

the present time, and we have a third Republican Governor,

8

Mr. Agnew, January 25, when that rolls around, and if you

9

will refer to the financial papers I have given you, I

10

have given you a detailed breakdown of the fiscal year

11

68 budget. That is in the green folder, it goes through

12

1967, showing you the growth in General, Special ond

13

Federal funds. The last year of Governor McKeldin's

14

budget, which is F.Y. '65, there were $355,375,994, and

15

the budget of Governor Tawes, now operating, round figures

16

$885 million. You have the prior budgets. There has neve

17

been an impaiment of the government. The people's

18

interest have been served, the finances of Maryland have

19

been sound, our bonds rate Triple A, highest rate of

20

any State in the Union, a ready market for them, and we

21

are meeting the challenges. I feel the system has worked
