applicant or applicants the following sums or license fees,
viz: If the license is for twelve months and to sell
spirituous and fermented or intoxicating liquors and
beer, ale, porter, wine or liquor of any kind having a greater
percentage of alcohol by volume than one-half of one
per cent for beverage purposes by the drink or in
quantities not more than four and seven-eighths gallons,
such license is herein defined to be a retail license, the sum
of four hundred dollars; if the license is for a period of
twelve months and to sell only beer, ale, porter, wine
and other fermented beverages having a greater percent-
age of alcohol by volume than one-half of one per cent for
beverage purposes by the drink or in quantities of not more
than four and seven-eighths gallons, such license is also
herein defined to be a retail license, the sum of two hun-
dred dollars; if the license is for twelve months, and to
sell spirituous, fermented or intoxicating liquors, beer, ale,
porter, wine or liquor of any kind having a greater percent-
age of alcohol by volume than one-half of one per cent for
beverage purposes in quantities not less than a pint and
not to be drunk on the premises, and such license is herein
defined to be a wholesale license, the said clerk shall
inquire of the applicant, under oath by such clerk admin-
istered, as to the value of the stock of spirituous or fer-
mented liquors intended to be kept on hand in the business
he proposes to conduct under the license applied for, and if
it shall appear from the statement then made under oath
that the value of the applicant's stock of spirituous or fer-
mented liquors will not exceed one thousand dollars, the
license fee shall be four hundred dollars; if more than one
thousand dollars, and not exceeding two thousand dollars,
the license fee shall be four hundred and fifty dollars; if
more than two thousand dollars, the license fee shall be five
hundred dollars; if the license is for twelve months and to
sell only beer, ale, porter, wine and other fermented bev-
erages having a greater percentage of alcohol by volume
than one-half of one percent for beverage purposes in
quantities not less than a pint and not to be drunk on
the premises, such license, is herein defined to be a whole-
sale beer license, the said clerk shall inquire of the ap-
plicant, under oath by said clerk administered, as to
the value of the stock of beer, ale, porter, wine or
other fermented beverage having a greater percentage of
alcohol by volume than one-half of one per cent for bever-
age purposes intended to be kept on hand in the business
he proposes to conduct under the license applied for, and
