635. The said Mayor and City Council shall have power
to levy a tax of not over two cents on each one hundred
dollars' worth of assessable property each year for the pur-
pose of equipment or maintenance of any volunteer fire
department which may be in existence in said town, or for
the maintenance of any building in which the same may be
housed, the proceeds thereof to be delivered either to the
said fire company, or expended by the Mayor and City
Council in its discretion.

WATER RENT.

636. From and after the passage of this Act the Water
Board of Laurel, provided for by Chapter 169 of the Acts
of 1900, is abolished and all authority given to said Water
Board by said Act and authority to use any surplus after
making the payments required in said Act, is hereby vested
in the Mayor and City Council of Laurel. The City Coun-
cil may by ordinance from time to time fix schedules of
rates for furnishing water to private residences and other
buildings, and said water rent shall be collected by the
Collector of said town; and if said water rent is not paid
for a period of six months, said Collector shall have power
to disconnect the property for which the same is due from
the town water system, and the same shall not be re-con-
nected until all arrearages are paid. Water rent shall be
a lien upon the property for which the water is furnished
and any property on which water rent is due for more than
six months may be advertised and sold at the February tax
sale in the same manner as property is sold for taxes.

TAXES.

637. It shall be the duty of the Clerk of the City Coun-
cil, within thirty days after the completion of the assess-
ments, in the years in which there is a general assessment,
and in every other year after the levy of taxes and not later
than the last day of May, to make up a complete schedule,
in triplicate and in alphabetical order, of all the property,
real and personal, subject to taxation, showing the owner's
name and address, value of assessment, both real and per-
sonal, with a column for each separate tax and a column
for the total:, and deliver, within the time before mentioned,
one of said copies to the Collector, one to the Treasurer,
and retain and preserve the other copy. He shall also fur-
nish to the said Collector and Treasurer the names of all
takers or users of water.
