102 LAWS OF MARYLAND. [CH. 50

WHEREAS, Sections 74, 75, 76 and 77 of Article 16 of the
Code of Public General Laws of the State provide only for
the adoption of infants and there is no general law in the
State of Maryland providing for the adoption of adults;
therefore

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That Anna Mae Harris, of Carroll County, be,
and she is hereby declared to be the adopted daughter of
Uriah G. Heltibridle and Sallie L. Heltibridle, his wife,
and as such adopted daughter is entitled to all the rights
of inheritance and distribution as to the estate of the said
Uriah G. Heltibridle and Sallie L. Heltibridle, his wife,
and subject to all the obligations to which she would be
entitled if she were a natural child born of the said Uriah
G. Heltibridle and Sallie L. Heltibridle, his wife, in lawful
wedlock, and that the name of the said Anna Mae Harris
be, and it is hereby changed to Anna Mae Heltibridle.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall
take effect from June 1, 1933.

CHAPTER 50.

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Sec-
tions 87 and 91 of Article 21 of the Annotated Code of
Maryland (1929 Supplement), title "Conveyancing, "
sub-title "Defective Conveyances, " as said sections were
amended by Chapter 312 of the Acts of 1931, to make
valid deeds, mortgages, bonds or conveyances, bills of
sale, and all other conveyances of real and personal
property, or of any interest therein or of agreements
relating thereto, defective in acknowledgment or in the
certificate thereof, or when the official character of the
officer taking the acknowledgment has not been stated
in the body of the certificate or certified to, as required
by law, or when the conveyance or agreement has not
been witnessed or sealed, or when any deed heretofore
made to or from a corporation prior to the payment of
bonus tax which was afterwards paid, or any mortgage
or assignment of mortgage defectively sworn to or not
sworn to at all.
