A Joint Resolution to invite Rear Admiral David
D. Porter and the Officers and Professors of the
Naval Academy to visit the two Houses of the
General Assembly, and tender them the privi-
leges of the floor.
WHEREAS, The people of this State are greatly in-
terested in the success and prosperity of the
United States Naval Academy which has been
wisely and advantageously located within the
State of Maryland; and whereas, the General
Assembly desire to testily in a public manner,
their appreciation of the value of the institution,
and to pay a deserved tribute of respect and ad-
miration to the gallant and distinguished officer
who has been appointed to its command;
Be it therefore Resolved, (the House of Delegates
concurring therein, ) That a committee of three
members from the House of Delegates and two
members from the Senate be appointed by the Pre-
siding Officers of their bodies respectively, to ten-
der an invitation to Rear Admiral David D. Porter
and the Officers and Professors of the Naval
Academy to visit the General Assembly on a con-
venient day.
Resolved, That the Presiding Officers of the two
Houses be empowered to make proper arrange-
ments for the reception of the said distinguished
guests.
