SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this act
|
 
|
shall be, at the next municipal election to be held
|

in said city of Hagerstown, submitted to the legal

and qualified voters thereof for their adoption or

rejection; and at the said election the vote on said
|

proposed act shall be by ballot, and upon each ballot

there shall be written or printed the words, " For

the act to encourage manufactures," or " Against
|

the act to encourage manufactures," as the voter
|
 
|
shall elect, and immediately after said election due
|
 
|
return shall be made to the mayor of said city, who
|

result.

shall prepare a certificate proclaiming the result of
|
 
|
such election, and cause said certificate to be pub-
|
 
|
lished once in each newspaper published in said city ;
|
 
|
and if it shall appear by the said return that a ma-
|
 
|
jority of the votes have been cast " For the act to en-
|
 
|
courage manufactures," then this act shall take effect
|
 
|
from and after the date of said proclamation by the
|
 
|
mayor; but if it shall appear that a majority of the
|
 
|
votes have been cast " Against the act to encourage
|
 
|
manufactures," then this act shall be null and of no
|
 
|
effect.
|
 
|
SEC. 3. And be it further enacted, That this act
|

ninety-eight of the acts of the General Assembly
|

of eighteen hundred and seventy, and to substitute
|
 
|
in lieu thereof the following :

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assem-

bly of Maryland, That sections 195 and 198 of
|
Repealed and
|
article 11 of the Code of Public Local Laws, title
|
substituted.
