by the General Government for the purpose of

Joint resolutions for the appointment of an un-

paid commission of five to examine and report

to the next General Assembly what legislation

is necessary to protect and foster the forest
|

growth in Maryland.
|
 
|
WHEREAS recent investigations by scientific
|
 
|
men and others in reference to the extinction of
|
 
|
Maryland forests and the causes operating to the
|
 
|
detriment of the growth of young trees, &c., have
|
 
|
shown that the destruction of forest trees in a
|
 
|
large portion of the State is far in excess of the
|
 
|
replanting which is being done; and, whereas, it
|

is made the duty of the Legislature under the

Constitution to protect and foster this among
|
 
|
other material interests of the State; and,
|
 
|
whereas, if some proper legislation be not enacted
|
 
|
in regard to this subject, another half century will
|

doubtless witness the almost entire destruction of
|
 
|
forest growth in this State; therefore, be it
|
 
|
