required from time to time, to levy such special

said city as may be necessary to meet the interest

on said bonds and to pay the principal thereof at

maturity, or when and to such extent as the said

Mayor and City Council may determine.

SEC. 5. And be it enacted, That said Mayor and
|
 
|
City Council of Cumberland be and are hereby
|
 
|
authorized and empowered at the next election
|
 
|
for members of the city council, or by special
|

or against said proposition, and to provide for

said Mayor and City Council shall have power, in

their discretion (subject to the provisions of the

exercise the powers vested in them by this act ;

but if less than two-thirds of the votes cast upon
|
 
|
said question are in favor of said proposition, then
|
 
|
said Mayor and City Council shall not exercise
|
 
|
any of the powers provided for in this act.

SEC. 6. And be it enacted, That if at the election
|
 
|
provided for in the last preceding section two-
|
 
|
thirds of the votes cast upon said question are in
|
 
|
favor of making the purchase and issuing the
|
 
|
bonds hereinbefore mentioned, then said Mayor
|
 
|
and City Council, before they proceed to make
|
 
|
any purchase or issue any bonds under this act,
|
 
|
shall take from said Thomas H. Paul and J. T. H.
|
Take bond.

Paul, a bond, with approved securities, as said
|
 
|
Mayor and City Council may deem proper, con-
|
 
|
ditioned that when said city shall have purchased
|
 
|
and paid for the ground to be so purchased by it,
|

they, the said Thomas H. Paul and J. T. H. Paul,
