registration, of which such books may be respect-

 

ively the registry of voters and poll-books, and shall

 

sit for the purpose of ascertaining and registering

 

in the proper registry of voters and poll-books the

 

persons qualified to vote in the election district or

 

in each of the election precincts of such election
