We, therefore, submit the following resolution:

Resolved, That Asa A. Lawrence is entitled to a seat in
this Senate as the Senator from St. Mary's county.

By order of the Committee,

A. P. GORMAN,

Chairman.

Pending the consideration of the Report,
Mr. Brewer moved that the further consideration of the
Report and Resolution be postponed, and that it be made the
order of the day for Saturday at 12 o'clock, M., and that the
contestant be permitted to be heard upon the floor of the
Senate.

Which was decided in the negative by yeas and nays as
follows :

The question recurring upon the adoption of the Report
and Resolutions,
It was adopted.
Also, by Mr. Gorman, from same Committee, the following

REPORT AND RESOLUTION.

In the matter of the contested election of the Senator from
Calvert county, your Committee respectful ly report, that from
a full and fair examination of the testimony adduced before
them, that at the election held on the 2nd day of November,
1875, that it appeared by the returns made to the Governor
of the State, that Nathaniel Duke received one thousand and
forty-six votes, and Joseph A. Wilson received one thousand
and forty-one votes, being a majority of live votes for Nathan-
iel Duke, the sitting member.

The contestant, Joseph A. Wilson, alleges the returns are

incorrect and too large; that votes were received and counted

for Duke which were improper; that votes of persons who

had been convicted of infamous crimes were received and

counted for Duke to the number of five; that the votes of two
