The House then proceeded to the consideration of the
special orderof the day being,
The bill entitled an Act to repeal any supposed exemptions
of the capital stock of the Baltimoore and Ohio Railroad Com-
pany, or of any of its branch roads, or its or tneir property,
real, personal or mixed, from taxation for State, county or
municipal purposes.
Said bill being upon a third reading,
The Joint Resolutions in reference to the same subject
were also considered as part of the order of the day.
Mr. Clark, from the Committee on Ways and Means, sub-
mitted the following
REPORT.
To the Hon. Lewis Cass Smith,
Speaker of the House of Delegates:
Your Committee of Way and Means, beg respectfully to
report, that in pursuance of the action of the House on Thurs-
day last, they met and carefully considered the proposition
of the Officers of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad Company,
to wit: their offer to pay the State $25,000 per annum, in
lieu of the capitatirn tax on the Washington Branch of said
road, and recommend to this House that said proposition be
positively rejected.
