Said bill was then sent to the Senate.
The bill entitled an Act to provide for the repairs of the
public roads of St. Mary's county,
Being upon its second reading,
Mr, Mattingly submitted the following amendment:
AMENDMENT PROPOSED.
In line 2, Sec. 2, strike out the word "four," and insert
"two."
In line 6, Section 2, strike nut the word "four," and in-
sert "two."
Strike out "Section 5," and substitute in lieu thereof, the
following, viz:
"Section 5. And be it enacted, That the report of said con
tractor to the County Commissioners shall contain a clear-
statement of the character and amount of work done, and
the condition of the section included in the report, and be
verified by oath or affirmation, which shall be deemed prima
facie true, subject, however, to the right of a majority of the
tax payers along the lines of the respective sections, on notice
to the contractor and County Commissioners to controvert-
the same, and the judgment of the said" Conn ty Commission-
ers in such cases, to be final between all the said parties."
Section 9, strike out "twenty feet," and insert "fifteen.
feet."
Which were severally read and adopted.
Said bill as amended was then read a second time, and.
ordered to be engrossed for a third reading.
The bill entitled an Act to authorize Alexander Franklin.
