The House of Delegates has organized by the election of
Hon. Lewis C. Smith as Speaker, and the appointment of
Milton Y. Kidd, Esq., as Chief Clerk.
We are now ready to proceed with the business of the ses-
sion, and concur with your Honorable Body in the appoint-
ment of a Joint Committee to wait upon his Excellency the
Governor, and inform him that the General Assembly is pre-
pared to receive any communication he may be pleased to
make.
We have appointed on the part of the House Messrs. Neal,
Waters, of Carroll, and Naill.

Chief Clerk.
Which was read, assented to and sent to the Senate.
Mr. Donaldson submitted the following order :
Ordered, That the consideration of the petition of J. Mor-
rison Harris do lie on the table till such time as the Speaker,
pursuant to the provisions of the Constitution, do proceed to
open the returns of the election for Governor.
Which was adopted.
Mr. Gill submitted the following message :
By THE HOUSE OF DELEGATES,
January 6th, 1S76.
Gentlemen of the Senate :
We respectfully propose, with the concurrence of your
Honorable Body, that the Senate and House of Delegates
shall meet in the Hall of the House, at two o'clock
to-day, when the Speaker of the House of Delegates
shall preside, and in the presence of both Houses, open
the returns of the election for Governor of the State of Mary-
land, in conformity with the requirements of the Constitution
of this State.

Chief Clerk.

Mr. Robinson demanded the previous question.
The question then being "shall the main question be now
