Road passes, that said Rail Road should be constructed, and
to that end, that the State should forthwith exercise its
rights as the only bona fide stockholder of the same; there-
fore.
Be it resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, First,
That a Committee consisting of three on the part of the Sen-
ate and seven on the part of the House of Delegates, to be
appointed by the presiding officers of the Senate and House
of Delegates respectively, be appointed, whose duty it shall
be to inquire and report to the General Assembly of Mary-
land whether the said subscription by the Treasurer of the
State of Maryland, to the capital stock of the Southern Mary-
land Rail Road Company, was induced to be made by false and
fraudulent representations.
Second. Whether the said sum of one hundred and sixty-
three thousand dollars, or any part thereof, was induced to
be paid by the Treasurer of the State of Maryland, to said
Southern Maryland Rail Road Company, by false and fraud-
ulent representations
Third. What disposition has been made by said Southern
Maryland Rail Road Company, or any officer thereof, of said
sum of one hundred and sixty-three thousand dollars.
Fourth. Whether any other stockholder than the State of
Maryland is a bona fide stockholder of said Company, and
what is the best course for this State to pursue in connection
with its interests in said Company.
Fifth. That said Committee shall have powei and authority
to summon witnesses, to take testimony under oath in due
form of law, to send for persons and papers, and to report by
bill or otherwise.
Which were read a first time.
Mr. Loane, Chairman of the Committee on Corporations,
reported favorably,
A bill entitled an Act for the incorporation of the Grand
Lodge of the United States, of the Independent Order of Odd
Fellows.
Which was read a first time.
Mr. Loane moved that said bill be read a second time this
day, under the provisions of the Constitution, Section 27, Ar-
ticle 3.
