of the machine shall remain open so that the dial readings are
exposed to view, and the statements of votes cast shall not be
signed by the Judges and Clerks until all of the duly ac-
credited watchers and challengers and other persons lawfully
within such polling place shall have had a reasonable oppor-
tunity to examine the dials on the voting machine or machines,
and the entries on the said statements, and to call attention
to any apparent discrepancies; after which the said Judges
and Clerks shall make any corrections which a majority of
the Judges of Election shall decide to be necessary, and there-
after the Judges and Clerks of Election shall place their sig-
natures at the bottom of each such statement, and shall then
prepare a general return (if there is more than one voting
machine used) containing a recapitulation of the entries on
the statements of votes cast, which general return shall also be
signed by the Judges and Clerks, in duplicate. The Judges
of Election shall then proclaim the result of the voting, as
provided in Section 82 of this Article, and shall then close and
lock the counting compartment door of each machine and re-
move the keys from each machine. One of such keys for each
machine shall be placed in a sealed envelope bearing the serial
number of the machine and the precinct and district number
and be placed in the custody of one of the Judges who had
charge of the registers. The other key for each machine shall
be placed in a separate sealed envelope bearing the serial num-
ber of the machine which said key fits, and the precinct and
district number, and be placed in the custody of the other
Judge who had charge of the registers. Each of said Judges
shall also take one of the duplicate copies of each statement of
votes cast and of the general return, if any, after the said
statements have been divided into two sets, and each set
enclosed in a sealed envelope bearing the signatures of the
Judges and Clerks; one envelope to be addressed to the Clerk
of the Circuit Court for Montgomery County, the other to be
addressed to the County Commissioners of Montgomery Coun-
ty. The Judges who have charge of the register of voters shall
also take charge of the packages containing voters' certificates;
and the meeting of said Judges and Clerks shall then be dis-
solved. Before 12 o'clock, noon, of the second day after such
election the two Judges so having custody of said returns and
equipment shall deliver the statements of votes cast and gen-
eral return, if any, to the proper officials named on the enve-
lopes containing the same, and shall deliver the other equip-
ment to the Board of Supervisors of Election and obtain re-
ceipt for the same. After the statements of votes cast have
been canvassed in the manner provided by law for the can-
vassing of ballots, the original statements of votes cast shall be
carefully preserved by the Board of Canvassers and shall be
