590 LAWS OF MARYLAND. [CH. 308

Commissioners of Garrett County to levy and pay certain
sums of money to the Volunteer Fire Departments of
Friendsville and Kitzmillersville and to authorize an in-
crease in the payments to the Volunteer Fire Departments in
Garrett County under certain conditions.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Sections 182 and 184 of Article 12 of the Code of
Public Local Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition), title "Garrett
County", sub-title "Fire Departments", be and they are hereby
repealed and re-enacted with amendments, to read as follows:

182. The County Commissioners of Garrett County are
hereby authorized, empowered and directed to pay the sum of
Six Hundred Dollars ($600. 00) annually to the Oakland Vol-
unteer Fire Department, the sum of Two Hundred Dollars
($200. 00) annually to the Friendsville Volunteer Fire Depart-
ment, the sum of Two Hundred Dollars ($200. 00) annually to
the Kitzmillersville Volunteer Fire Department, and the sum of
Two Hundred Dollars ($200. 00) annually to the Grantsville
Volunteer Fire Department, so long as each of said fire depart-
ments remains an active fire fighting organization, for their
benefit, said sums of money to be used by the said fire depart-
ments for the purchase, repair or maintenance of fire fighting
equipment. Provided that, if, in the opinion of the Board of
County Commissioners, the amounts herein authorized are not
sufficient to meet the needs or requirements of any one or more
of said fire departments for the purposes set forth in this section,
said Commissioners may increase said appropriation to such
amount as they deem advisable up to, but not in excess of a
total payment of Eight Hundred Dollars ($800. 00) to said
Oakland Volunteer Fire Department and Four Hundred Dol-
lars ($400. 00) for each of the other named departments.

184. The County Commissioners of Garrett County are
hereby authorized, directed and empowered to levy the sum of
Twelve Hundred Dollars ($1200. 00) annually and such amount
in addition thereto as they may determine upon in accordance
with the provisions of Section 182 but not in excess of Two
Thousand Dollars ($2, 000. 00) for the above purposes on the
assessable property of said County. Before the County Com-
missioners shall be required to pay the aforesaid sums of
money, the said Commissioners shall have the power to re-
quire the officers of said fire departments to appear before
them and show to the satisfaction of said Commissioners that
any sums of money paid by the said Commissioners to the said
fire departments under this sub-title have been expended for
the purposes set forth in this sub-title, and also that said
fire departments are active fire fighting organizations. In the
