SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That, if any section or
provision of this Act shall be held invalid, such invalidity shall
not affect the validity of the other sections or provisions there-
of.
SEC. 3. And 6e. it further enacted, That all laws or parts of
laws inconsistent with the provisions of this Act be and they
are hereby repealed to the extent of such inconsistency.
SEC. 4. And fie it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1937.

CHAPTER 96.
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact with amendments Section 723
of Article 11 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland
(1930 Edition), title "Frederick County, " sub-title "Sheriff, "
as said section was amended by Chapter 437 of the Acts of
1933, increasing the compensation of the Sheriff of Freder-
ick County.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section 723 of Article 11 of the Code of Public
Local Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition), title "Frederick
County, " sub-title "Sheriff, " as said section was amended by
Chapter 437 of the Acts of 1933, be and it is hereby repealed
and re-enacted with amendments to read as follows:
723. The County Commissioners are authorized and di-
rected to levy for and pay to the sheriff of Frederick County,
annually, the sum of Three Thousand ($ 3, 000. 00) Dollars in
equal monthly installments, as full compensation, in lieu of all
fees, emoluments and other compensation, in addition to lodg-
ing furnished to himself and family, for the discharge of his
official duties connected with the administration of said office,
as well as such duties as may be required of him by law, in-
cluding his care, labor, responsibility and expense, in keeping
the prisoners committed to his custody safely in jail, and in
having the supplies and provisions furnished him by the said
commissioners cooked and served to said prisoners.
The Sheriff of Frederick County is hereby empowered and
directed to appoint an office deputy, two riding deputies, and
a warden or turnkey. The salaries of the aforesaid office
deputy, riding deputies and warden or turnkey shall be ap-
