1024 LAWS OF MARYLAND. [CH. 490

Any employee retired on account of accidental disability
shall receive a retirement allowance equal to one-half of the
annual salary or compensation received by him or her at the
time of retirement.

All employees granted a retirement allowance under this
Article shall receive the same in equal semi-monthly payments,
the same to be paid by the State Comptroller upon the certifi-
cation of semi-monthly payrolls by the State Employment Com-
missioner containing the names, addresses, and amounts to be
paid to each of said retired employees.

The term "employee" as used in this Article shall not include
or apply to elected officials.

Nothing in this Article shall he construed to affect the pro-
visions of any other law for the retirement or payment of
pensions to employees of the State, but no employee of the
State shall be entitled to receive more than one retirement
allowance or pension payable out of State funds.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1937.

CHAPTER 490.

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact with amendments Section 8C
of Article 88A (1935 Supplement), title "State Aid and
Charities".

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section 8C of Article 88A (1935 Supplement), title
"State Aid and Charities", be and the same is hereby repealed
and re-enacted with amendments to read as follows:

8C. The Board may, with the approval of the Governor,
designate existing agencies or organizations within the State
as its agents as may in its discretion be desirable or necessary
for the purpose of this Article. In the selection of agencies
or organizations for the care of children, the Board shall use
only such as shall comply with proper standards for the physi-
cal, educational and moral life of the child. Children shall
be placed in institutions or homes of the same religious faith
as that of the child if there be such institution or home with
proper standards. The practice shall be followed wherever
possible, in the placement of children of using the services of
the existing private institutions and agencies for child care
