sources", be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with
amendments, to read as follows:
1. There is hereby created a State agency to be known
as The Board of Natural Resources to co-ordinate the acti-
vities of the several State Departments that are concerned
with the conservation of natural resources. The Board shall
be composed of the Chairman of the Commission of Tide-
water Fisheries, the State Game Warden, the State Forester,
the Director of the Department of Geology, Mines and
Water Resources, the Director of Research and Education
and eight other members to be appointed by the Governor,
two from the tidewater Counties of the Eastern Shore, two
from the tidewater counties of the Western Shore, and four
from the State at large. Two of those appointed from the
tidewater counties shall have practical knowledge of tide-
water fisheries and shall have no financial interest in the
fisheries industry. The Chairman of the Commission of Tide-
water Fisheries shall serve as Chairman of the Board and for
his services as Chairman he shall receive such compensation
as shall be provided in the State Budget.
2. The term of office of the six appointed members of the
Board shall be six years from June 1, 1941 but of those first
appointed, one shall serve for one year, one for two years,
one for three years, one for four years, one for five years and
one for six years. On and after June 1, 1947, there shall be
eight appointed members of said Board, and any appoint-
ments or re-appointments made after said June 1, 1947, shall
be for a term of four years. The Governor may remove any
appointed member for cause, and may fill any vacancy for
the unexpired portion of the term of office in which such
vacancy occurs. The members shall receive no compensation
for their services, but shall be reimbursed for necessary
traveling expenses and disbursements incurred in attending
meetings or performing other official duties. The Board shall
be required to meet at least once every two months, and
special meetings may be called by the chairman or upon the
written request of five members of the Board. A majority
of the members shall constitute a quorum.
4. The Board shall appoint in accordance with the pro-
visions of the Merit System law an Executive Secretary and
such other employees as it deems necessary, who shall re-
ceive such compensation as may be provided in the Budget.
The Executive Secretary shall be a person with executive
ability and experience and with knowledge of the general prin-
ciples involved in the conservation, development and restora-
tion of the natural resources of the State and shall receive
such compensation as shall be provided in the State Budget.
