CHAPTER 49.
(Senate Bill 150)
AN ACT to authorize the Mayor and City Council of Bal-
timore to issue certificates of indebtedness of said cor-
poration to an amount not exceeding five hundred thou-
sand dollars ($500,000.00), the proceeds of the same to
be expended for the acquisition, by purchase or con-
demnation, of land in the City of Baltimore and erect-
ing thereon a building in which to house the People's
Court of Baltimore City, and to purchase the necessary
equipment and furniture for said court, and to house
the archives and other agencies or activities of the
Mayor and City Council of Baltimore; and for doing
any and all things necessary in connection therewith or
pertaining thereto; providing that if the Mayor and
City Council of Baltimore shall determine that it now
owns land applicable to the erection of said building,
all or any part of the proceeds of. the certificates of
indebtedness hereby authorized may be used for the
construction of such building as the Mayor and City
Council of Baltimore shall by ordinance or ordinances
provide; and to authorize said municipality to submit
an ordinance or ordinances for said purpose to the legal
voters of Baltimore City, and declaring this act to be
an emergency law.
WHEREAS, Chapter 8 of the Laws of Maryland of 1944
(Extraordinary Session) and Ordinance No. 118, dated
July 14, 1944, of the Mayor and City Council of Baltimore,
which was ratified and approved by the legal voters of
Baltimore City at the election held on November 7, 1944,
authorized the Mayor and City Council of Baltimore to
issue its Certificates of Indebtedness to an amount not
exceeding Five Hundred Thousand Dollars ($500,000.00)
to be used for the acquisition, by purchase or condemna-
tion, of land in the City of Baltimore and erecting thereon
a building in which to house the People's Court of Balti-
more City, and to purchase the necessary equipment and
furniture for said Court, and to house the archives and
other agencies or activities of the Mayor and City Council
of Baltimore; it was also provided that if the Mayor and
City Council of Baltimore shall determine that it now
owns land applicable to the erection of such building, so
much of the proceeds of the Certificates of Indebtedness
as may be necessary may be used for the construction of
such building as the Mayor and City Council of Baltimore
shall by ordinance or ordinances provide; and
