ments, to read as follows:

(i). If a husband and wife living together file separate
returns, each shall be treated as a single person for the
purposes of this section.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1947.

CHAPTER 283.
(Senate Bill 117)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Sub-
section 8 of Section 80 of Article 101 of the Annotated
Code of Maryland (1943 Supplement), title "Work-
men's Compensation", sub-title "Miscellaneous", relat-
ing to the term "Average weekly wages" as applied to
veterans receiving in-training benefits.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Sub-section 8 of Section 80 of Article 101 of the
Annotated Code of Maryland (1943 Supplement), title
"Workmen's Compensation", sub-title "Miscellaneous", be
and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amend-
ments, to read as follows:

(8) "Average weekly wages" for the purposes of this
Article shall be taken to mean the average weekly wages
earned by an employee when working on full time, and if
any employee, shall receive wages paid in part by his em-
ployer and in part by the United States under any vet-
erans' benefit law enacted by Congress, the term "Average
weekly wages" shall mean the total average weekly wages
from both sources earned by such an employee when work-
ing on full-time.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act is
hereby declared to be an emergency law and necessary
for the immediate preservation of the public health and
safety, and being passed upon a yea and nay vote, sup-
ported by three-fifths of all the members elected to each
of the two houses of the General Assembly, the same shall
take effect from the date of its passage.
